U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a major initiative to restore the movement of commercial ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that under “Project Freedom,” safe passage for vessels will begin today. The announcement comes at a time when ongoing tensions in the Middle East have left ships from multiple countries stuck in this vital maritime corridor, disrupting global trade.
President Trump said that several countries not involved in the conflict had requested U.S. assistance to safely extract their vessels so that commercial activities could resume. He assured that the United States would take all necessary measures to protect these ships and their crews, helping them reach their destinations safely.
He further stated that the initiative is being undertaken purely on humanitarian grounds, as many ships are facing shortages of food and other essential supplies, potentially leading to health and sanitation issues for crew members. According to him, the plan will not only provide relief to affected countries but could also help reduce tensions in the region.
The U.S. President made it clear that his representatives are engaged in constructive talks with Iran and expressed hope that these negotiations would prove beneficial for all parties. He emphasized that America’s objective is not to escalate conflict, but to facilitate neutral countries and companies so they can continue their trade operations.
Meanwhile, the United States Central Command has also announced that U.S. forces will launch a mission starting today in the Strait of Hormuz to ensure freedom of navigation. The mission aims to assist commercial vessels seeking to reach their destinations through secure routes.
According to U.S. media, under the new arrangement, commercial ships will not require direct escorts from the U.S. Navy. However, the Navy will remain present in nearby areas to respond to any potential threats or emergencies.
President Trump warned that any attempt to obstruct this humanitarian initiative would be met with a strong and immediate response, raising the possibility of further tensions in the region.
