Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has strongly reacted after fake images of her went viral on social media, describing the trend as dangerous. The images are reportedly created using artificial intelligence (AI) and were being widely shared on social media platforms as if they were real.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Giorgia Meloni said that the misuse of modern technology is increasingly being used to mislead the public and damage individuals’ reputations. According to her, AI-generated images and content are being presented in a way that makes them appear authentic, which is highly concerning and could have serious social consequences.
She humorously remarked that although the creator of the images may have tried to make her look better, the real issue is not that, but the spread of lies and misinformation. Meloni stressed that such tactics can pose a threat not only to political figures but also to ordinary citizens.
