There is a possibility of major changes in the new central contract for national cricketers.
The financial model of central contracts will end on June 30, while the term of new central contracts will begin on July 1. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will decide on the financial model.
During the tenure of former PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf, a financial model was introduced for three years in 2023. This model was not changed during the tenure of current PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, but the categories of players continued to be changed based on fitness and performance.
The new central contracts will begin from July 1, and preliminary discussions are underway regarding the names for the new central contracts.
Last year, 30 cricketers were given central contracts, and for the first time, there were no cricketers in Category A.
Sources say that the new central contract will see major changes, with many cricketers on central contracts being demoted or promoted in their categories.
The inclusion of Muhammad Nawaz, Abdullah Shafiq, Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat, and Khushdil Shah in the central contract is unlikely.
Meanwhile, the possibility of domestic performers including Azan Owais and Abdullah Fazal being included has been expressed.
