Modi government’s brutality at its peak: clashes between security forces and protesters in Manipur, human rights violations continue.

Tension has once again escalated in the Indian northeastern state of Manipur, where according to media reports, an increase in clashes between the public and security forces has been observed.

Reports indicate that during April and May 2026, protests began in various areas of Manipur, which later turned violent. During these demonstrations, clashes occurred between security forces and protesters, with reports of several deaths and injuries.

After major protests began on April 7, the situation further deteriorated, and by April 8, the unrest intensified in some areas, leading to damage to property. In response, authorities imposed curfews in several regions and also suspended internet services.

Local sources state that during the unrest, several individuals were affected due to security forces’ operations, while large-scale operations were carried out in different areas to bring the situation under control. These actions have further deepened an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the region.

Experts say that the ongoing unrest in Manipur is mainly due to long-standing ethnic, political, and administrative disputes, which periodically escalate into violence. According to them, the current situation has further increased instability in the region.

Human rights organizations and analysts have expressed concern that continuous curfews, internet shutdowns, and security operations have severely impacted the lives of ordinary citizens. Reports also suggest that access to basic facilities has been significantly restricted.
