Punjab Government Orders Acceleration of Major Health Infrastructure Projects

LAHORE: The Punjab government has directed the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) to expedite construction work on several ongoing healthcare projects across the province, aiming to ensure their timely completion.

The directive was issued by Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique while chairing a review meeting of the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education on Wednesday.

During the meeting, officials reviewed progress on key projects including the Nawaz Sharif Medical District and the under-construction Lady Willingdon Hospital in Lahore.

The minister stated that the provincial government is implementing large-scale healthcare initiatives worth billions of rupees to improve medical services for the public. He added that the Nawaz Sharif Medical District project will include multiple advanced healthcare and education facilities in Lahore.

These planned facilities include Children’s Hospital 2, an Institute of Genetic and Blood Diseases, an Institute of Surgical, Orthopedic and Medical Rehabilitation, a Center of Excellence for Nursing Education, a specialized medical hospital, a 1,000-bed cardiac hospital, a medical university, and a modern diagnostic laboratory.

He further instructed IDAP to ensure early completion of all ongoing projects and noted that a wider network of government hospitals is also being developed across Punjab to enhance access to healthcare services for the population.
